Valerie VanBooven RN BSN:

This is Valerie VanBooven with The Senior Care Industry Netcast, where leaders with three or more years in the senior care industry share their advice. It’s six questions in nine minutes, so let’s get to it.

In a few sentences, tell us who you are and what you do.

Ruben Ramos:

Okay. My name is Ruben Ramos. I am the CEO and owner of Touching Hearts at Home, located in Gainesville, in the North central Florida area.

Valerie VanBooven RN BSN:

And what do you guys do?

Ruben Ramos:

We are proud to provide exceptional in home care for seniors and adults with disabilities. We’re family owned and operated, and we’ve been serving the Gainesville North Central Florida communities for over nine years.

Valerie VanBooven RN BSN:

Wow. So you’ve been doing this a long time in your area. That’s awesome. And so I’m sure you are a wealth of resources, then.

Ruben Ramos:

We also specialize in Alzheimer’s, dementia care, stroke care, and also 24/7 high need cases. Our [inaudible 00:01:17] caregivers are the best at what we do, and they receive ongoing training, which is why we are the best home care provider in North Central Florida.

Valerie VanBooven RN BSN:

Great. That’s awesome. Thank you for that.

So tell us, what is the best thing about serving aging adults?

Ruben Ramos:

Well, that’s a great question. My wife and I started Touching Hearts at Home after her mother, [Rita 00:00:01:50], was diagnosed with dementia, and this is a disease that greatly affects not just the patient, but also the entire family. We all felt the effects of this disease, and we also, thankfully, overcame the challenges of trying to provide care for her. We took this experience, and we wanted to be a resource for other families who encounter the same issues with their family, illness with their family members, and we wanted to serve seniors by providing exceptional care, helping families to deal with this and to give them peace of mind that their loved ones can be properly cared for by us.

Valerie VanBooven RN BSN:

How Do You Use Internet Marketing To Your Advantage?

That’s excellent, and I know that making families feel better and giving them peace of mind has to make everybody in your office’s heart happy when that happens, so that’s great. Awesome. Okay. Let’s talk about internet marketing for just a minute, because we are in a particularly weird time right now. So I hear from other senior service providers that marketing online can be challenging, confusing, ever-changing. What has been your experience or your thoughts on that?

Ruben Ramos:

Our experience is that online marketing is a great tool in our workshop, but our team really believes in social media and community marketing. And we want to utilize all these tools. We want to utilize social media platforms to stay connected and to be a resource for families and seniors. We post health tips, safety suggestions, and advice for families with aging loved ones. We also love to share our story about our monthly community initiatives, and even [inaudible 00:03:58] like our caregiver of the month program.

Valerie VanBooven RN BSN:

Yep. You guys do a great job with participating and engaging your local community, and I think that is, especially right now when we can’t get out and see everybody in person, making sure you’re active online is really important.

Are There Other Organizations or Professionals Who Have Made a Difference for You, Or In Your Community?

Ruben Ramos:

We continue to be amazed by the care that professionals and their communities in our local area in North Central Florida have provided during this very difficult time in dealing with the virus, and they continue to put the health and the safety of their residents and their staff as a priority. It really gives us a great sense of pride to know that these colleagues and professionals are working together and coming together during this most unprecedented time to ensure that our seniors are healthy and happy, and that they are being taken care of. We have been so inspired and encouraged by everyone’s willingness to help and support, and to provide the best care for our seniors.

Valerie VanBooven RN BSN:

Excellent. Okay. There are other senior care providers out there, and you have had a lot of experience over the last nine years.

What piece of advice would you give other senior care providers?

Ruben Ramos:

That’s a great question. At Touching Hearts at Home, we first believe that we treat each client as they were our own family member. This is why we strive to give consistently exceptional service to our clients and our families. We believe that when you put that first, and you put that mindset of treating them as you would your own family member, that this is a win win for everyone, and this makes us the best home care in North Central Florida area.

Valerie VanBooven RN BSN:

I would absolutely agree. And you guys are doing a great job. Okay. My last question, are you ready?

Ruben Ramos:

Yes.

Valerie VanBooven RN BSN:

All right. This is the one that everybody says is hard, but it’s supposed to be fun and easy.

When you have a win in life, in business, with family, or anywhere, how do you like to celebrate?

Ruben Ramos:

Well, when you come to work every day and you do what inspires you and you do what you love, then it makes everything else just a win type of situation. We are blessed to be in the home health care industry, providing exceptional cares for seniors, and we do this as a family owned business. I get to do this with family. I get to do this with exceptional staff, and also great families that we work with. So we do like to celebrate with our team. For instance, whenever a caregiver gets a compliment from a client or a family, we like to celebrate that. We also have a caregiver of the month program where we like to celebrate an exceptional caregiver each month for having done an exceptional job and going over and beyond. So those are just some of the ways that we like to celebrate what we did.

Valerie VanBooven RN BSN:

Great job. Those are all excellent ways. And honoring those who are so brave to be out there with our clients, and out there in the community every day, they have done a great job through all of this, and this current pandemic situation. And so the more you can celebrate their successes and how great they are, I think that’s wonderful. All of it is. So, thank you. Ruben, I want to thank you for being on the show. I want to thank you for taking the time out of your day to do this interview, because the wisdom and the strength that you bring to the senior care industry helps everyone [inaudible 00:08:36] all of our providers know more about how they can be an excellent provider in their life, too. So thank you very much.

Ruben Ramos:

Thank you for having me, Valerie. And as you can tell, we love talking about in home care.

Valerie VanBooven RN BSN:

Absolutely. Thank you so much.
